History of Huntsman Crawler
Where it All Started
I'll never forget the day the Crawler was really born—though at the time, I didn’t know it yet.
I was out with a group of Scouts, leading what was supposed to be a fun and simple winter outing. We were in my Ford Excursion, built up with 40-inch tires, suspension—the works.
Then we hit a snow drift. Two feet deep. Nothing crazy. Honestly, with the setup I had, we should’ve cut through it like it wasn’t even there.
But we didn’t.
One tire in the front was spinning. One in the back was moving. The others? Dead weight. We were stuck. Right there in front of a bunch of teenage boys, in a truck that looked the part but couldn’t deliver. All because it wasn’t locked.
That moment stuck with me. Embarrassing? Yeah. But more than that, it opened my eyes.
For years afterward, I kept thinking about what real capability means—not just how a rig looks in the driveway, but whether it moves when it matters. Whether it’ll get your family, your crew, your scouts—you—through whatever you’re facing.
And for just as many years, I kept thinking about the kind of build that could do that. One day the name came to me: Crawler.
I thought of the huntsman spider—how it can crawl over, under, and around anything in its path. That’s exactly what I wanted my trucks to do.
So I designed the Crawler Kit: real lockers, real suspension, real traction—none of the flashy junk that leaves you stranded when it matters. Just solid components that perform.
That snow drift taught me something. And now, with every truck we build at Huntsman, we make sure no one else has to learn that lesson the hard way.
